The solar panel sits in the centre of the lens facing straight up. A full day of sun gives you six to eight hours of light that night, and it does it again tomorrow without you touching it.
Two ways to fit it
Press it into soil on the two spikes that clip into the base, or take the spikes off and screw it flat onto decking, a stair tread or a board. Screws and wall plugs are in the box.
On at dusk, off at dawn
A light sensor does the switching. You do not set a timer and you do not flick anything — it simply comes on as the light goes, and stops when the sun is back.

An improved hermetic seal keeps out rain, snow, frost and sleet, so they stay where you put them through winter instead of coming up in October and going back down in spring.

Clip the two spikes together, push them into the base, press it into the soil and hit the button. That is the whole job, per light, with no tools at all if you are going into soft ground.

Slot the two spikes together, push them into the underside of the disk and press it into the ground where you want it. On decking, leave the spikes off and use the screws instead.

Leave the lens facing open sky. A full day of direct sun is what buys you the six-to-eight-hour run, so try not to judge them on the first night out of the box.
Then forget about them
They come on as the light drops and go off at dawn, by themselves, every night. Nothing to switch, nothing to charge, nothing to bring in for the winter.
